Remote UNDP Digital, AI & Innovation Internship programme 2026

The UNDP (United Nations Development Programme is running a global internship programme in the Digital, AI and Innovation (DAI) Hub. This is a home-based opportunity for students and recent graduates who want to gain real-world experience in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, data, and innovation for sustainable development.

What You Will Do:

You will support the DAI Hub in any of these areas (pick the ones that match your interest):

Systems Transformation & Innovation

  • Conduct research and draft analytical content on systems transformation and emerging policy approaches
  • Contribute to horizon scanning and synthesis of global trends
  • Design, test and document innovative policy and programme approaches for system-level change
  • Collect, curate and disseminate knowledge products on innovation

Programme Delivery & Capacity Building

  • Help deliver digital, data and AI initiatives with UNDP Country Offices
  • Develop capacity-building materials and toolkits for governments and partners
  • Organise webinars, trainings and learning sessions

Data Policy & Governance

  • Research data governance frameworks, data protection and responsible data use
  • Draft policy briefs, background notes and analytical summaries
  • Track global data and digital rights processes

Data Analytics & Insights

  • Collect, clean and analyse data sets
  • Create dashboards, trackers and data visualisations
  • Support monitoring, evaluation and reporting

Partnerships & Strategic Communications

  • Research new partners (tech companies, foundations, NGOs, etc.)
  • Draft concept notes, MoUs, proposals, pitch decks and outreach materials
  • Support strategic communications, social media, newsletters and blog posts
  • Attend and help organise UN and inter-agency meetings

Process Efficiency & Resource Management

  • Track project workplans and deliverables
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), trackers and dashboards
  • Identify and suggest process improvements

Product Design, Build and Management (including AI tools)

  • Design digital products such as apps, platforms and AI tools
  • Help scope, build and test new digital products with developers and client teams
  • Conduct user testing and assist with implementation in countries

Research & Knowledge Management

  • Maintain and update knowledge platforms (SparkBlue, SharePoint)
  • Conduct desk research and synthesise digital, data and AI topics
  • Draft summaries, briefing notes and support internal newsletters

Requirements:

Education

You must be enrolled in:

  • A master’s or higher programme, or
  • Final year of a bachelor’s degree, or
  • Have graduated with a university degree within the last 12 months (and start within one year of graduation)

Other Requirements

  • Interest/experience in digital, data, AI or innovation is desirable
  • Fluent in English
  • Detail-oriented, excellent communication, able to work independently and in a team
  • Database management and basic data skills are an advantage
