National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic

Applications are now open for the National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic (NSP), a fully-funded mobility opportunity for international students, PhD researchers, university teachers, researchers, and artists seeking academic and professional development. The programme supports study, research, teaching, and artistic stays at leading higher education institutions and research organizations across Slovakia.

This fully-funded scholarship covers monthly stipends ranging from 620 EUR to 1,470 EUR depending on your category and experience level. Additionally, eligible applicants may receive a travel allowance of up to 1,500 EUR. There is no application fee, and the programme welcomes applicants from all countries worldwide except Slovakia. Who Can Apply?

The NSP supports three main categories of applicants:

Category A: University Students

• Must be enrolled at universities outside Slovakia
• Must be pursuing second-level higher education (Master’s studies)
• Must have completed at least 2.5 years in their current study program
• Must be accepted by a Slovak higher education institution for academic mobility
• Duration: 1–2 full semesters (4–5 or 9–10 months) or 1–3 full trimesters (3–4, 6–7, or 9–10 months)

Category B: PhD Students

• Must be pursuing doctoral studies or scientific training outside Slovakia
• Must be accepted by a Slovak higher education institution or eligible research organization (such as the Slovak Academy of Sciences)
• Duration: 1–10 months

Category C: University Teachers, Researchers, and Artists

• Must be invited by a Slovak institution with valid research and development certification
• Must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) or have specific work experience requirements
• Duration: 1–10 months

Important Eligibility Notes

The NSP does not support:

• International students or PhD students seeking full degree programs in Slovakia
• Applicants without a PhD who have more than 4 years of work experience
• Applicants who have spent 15 or more months in Slovakia within the past 3 years
• Applicants accepted for scholarships through other public funding programs (Erasmus+, Visegrad Fund, CEEPUS, bilateral agreements, etc.)

What This Scholarship Offers:

Scholarship Amounts

The monthly scholarship amount varies by category:

• University students (second level): 620 EUR per month
• PhD students: 1,025.50 EUR per month
• University teachers/researchers/artists without PhD (less than 4 years experience): 1,025.50 EUR per month
• University teachers/researchers/artists with PhD (less than 10 years experience): 1,370 EUR per month
• University teachers/researchers/artists with PhD (more than 10 years experience): 1,470 EUR per month

Travel Grant (Additional Benefit)

Students and PhD students can apply for a travel allowance based on distance from home to Slovakia:

• Up to 200 km: 0 EUR
• 200–300 km: 50 EUR
• 300–500 km: 100 EUR
• 500–1,000 km: 250 EUR
• 1,000–2,000 km: 350 EUR
• 2,000–3,000 km: 500 EUR
• 3,000–5,000 km: 750 EUR
• 5,000–7,000 km: 1,100 EUR
• Over 7,000 km: 1,500 EUR

Application Deadlines:

• 30 April at 16:00 CET – For scholarship stays during the next academic year
• 31 October at 16:00 CET – For scholarship stays during the summer semester of the current academic year

Important: Only one application per call is allowed per applicant. International applicants requiring visas are advised to plan ahead for document collection and visa processing time.

Required Documents:

• Curriculum Vitae
• Motivation letter
• Detailed study programme (including host institution name, stay duration, start date, list of subjects, and ECTS credits—typically 30 ECTS per semester)
• Two recommendation letters from university teachers (must include signature, position, and contact details; dated within 3 months of the deadline)
• Official confirmation of current student status from your home institution (dated within 3 months of the deadline; includes year of study, standard program length, and expected completion date)
• Bachelor’s diploma, diploma supplement, and state examination certificate (if applicable)
• Acceptance/invitation letter from your Slovak host institution (on official letterhead, signed, including position and contact details of the signatory; dated within 3 months of the deadline)
• Transcript of records with credits from any previous NSP scholarship (if applicable)
