RISE Germany 2027 Paid Summer Research Internship

Applications are now open for the RISE Germany 2027 Summer Research Internship, a funded opportunity for undergraduate students to spend three months doing research at top German universities and research institutions. The program is organized by DAAD (the German Academic Exchange Service) and funded by the German Federal Foreign Office. It is open to students in biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences, engineering and closely related fields, including life sciences, applied mathematics and computer science.

It is meant for students enrolled at universities in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Ireland. How Are Students Selected?

  • DAAD first checks each application for completeness and for the academic quality of the applicant.
  • Hosts then rank the applicants they consider suitable.
  • DAAD makes the final decision using two alternating rankings. Projects are ranked by the number of applications they receive, and students are ranked by academic performance.

Of the roughly 300 scholarships, about 180 are full DAAD scholarships. The rest are funded through partners such as the DFG, North American universities and Mitacs, which supports up to 100 Canadian students each year.

Tips for a Strong Application:

  • Choose projects that truly match your studies and interests.
  • Ask your referees early and remind them of the December 15 deadline.
  • Check every official document for the letterhead and signature or seal.
  • Save a copy of each project description, since it contains the host’s contact details.
  • Submit a few days before the deadline to avoid technical problems.
