Multidisciplinary Mobility for a Climate Resilient Africa

MMoCRA delivers structured academic mobility and knowledge exchange opportunities for diverse stakeholders who are committed to advancing climate resilience across Africa. The European Union funded initiative connects leading universities and supports advanced studies, training, and collaboration to tackle interconnected challenges in energy, food systems, water resources, and ecosystems. Eligibility Summary:

• African citizenship is required for most student and early career opportunities.
• Relevant academic qualifications and alignment with program themes are essential.
• Commitment to contribute to climate resilience in Africa is important.
• Gender equality and social inclusion are priorities, with special consideration for women and underrepresented groups.

Target Groups:

MMoCRA provides opportunities for different categories of stakeholders to participate in mobility programs and contribute to climate resilient solutions.

Students and Early Career Researchers:

Master students, doctoral candidates, and trainees across Africa form the primary beneficiaries. The program offers comprehensive support for advanced studies in climate resilience, including access to world class facilities, multidisciplinary training, and opportunities to develop scientific, technical, and practical skills.

Available Opportunities

• 44 Master’s degree scholarships up to 24 months
• 12 Doctoral scholarships up to 36 months
• 20 short term traineeships 3 to 6 months

Academic and Administrative Staff

Lecturers, researchers, supervisors, mobility coordinators, and project administrators within the consortium and beyond can participate in staff mobility programs. These focus on teaching collaboration, research partnerships, capacity building activities, and institutional strengthening.

Industry and Practice Oriented Stakeholders

Members in climate, energy, agrifood, and sustainability sectors including energy companies, agribusinesses, research and innovation hubs, consultancies, and professional associations are key partners. The program develops competencies aligned with real world climate challenges and offers opportunities for collaboration, internships, and knowledge exchange.

Policy and Decision Making Stakeholders

Government institutions, public agencies, and regional policy bodies in Africa and relevant EU level stakeholders receive insights on skills development, capacity building outcomes, and evidence based contributions that support climate resilient development and informed policymaking.

Wider Community

Civil society organizations, local communities, and individuals interested in climate resilience, sustainability, and higher education benefit from MMoCRA societal impact and long term contributions to building climate resilient economies and communities.

Program Themes:

MMoCRA adopts a multidisciplinary approach to address the interconnected challenges of climate change through two primary thematic fields. These fields recognize that climate impacts on energy, food systems, water resources, and ecosystems require integrated cross disciplinary responses.

Climate and Energy

This thematic area addresses the urgent need for sustainable energy solutions and environmental management in the face of climate change.

Agrifood Systems

This thematic area focuses on transforming agricultural practices and food systems to ensure food security and nutrition in a changing climate.

How to Apply:

Follow these steps to apply:

1. Prepare required documents including the completed application form, current curriculum vitae, certified academic transcripts and certificates, proof of English language proficiency if applicable, a research or training proposal of 2 to 5 pages, two academic reference letters, copy of passport or national ID, and a motivation letter.
2. Identify a preferred host institution based on thematic alignment, available programs, and research interests.
3. Develop a research or training proposal that includes clear objectives, methodology, expected outcomes, timeline, and relevance to African climate challenges.
4. Submit the online application through the official MMoCRA portal. Upload all documents and review before the deadline to receive a confirmation email.
5. Expect review and possible interviews. Successful candidates receive award notifications, acceptance deadlines, and pre departure arrangements.
