Chevening Master’s Scholarships in UK 2027 (Fully funded)

Chevening Scholarships enable outstanding emerging leaders from all over the world to pursue one year master’s degrees in the UK. If you have the passion and influence to solve pressing local, national or global challenges, we strongly encourage you to apply.

Chevening Scholarships are fully funded, leaving you free to focus on achieving your professional goals and maximising the lifetime experience. You will live and study in the UK for a year, during which time you will develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture and build lasting positive relationships with the UK.

Who Can Apply?

• Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.
  • If applying for an award from an ODA-eligible country, be resident in an ODA-eligible country. This does not have to be the country of citizenship, but all applicants must show a clear intention to support their country of award. 
  • If you live in a European overseas territory, you may apply through the relevant Chevening award scheme for the European country of which you are a citizen.
• Commit to returning to your home country (country of award) for at least two years after your scholarship ends.
• Have at least two years’ work experience, acquired after completing your undergraduate degree, equivalent to 2,800 hours.
• Hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies you for a UK master’s programme. You must have finished your undergraduate studies at least two years before our application deadline, even if you have not yet received your certificate. However, you will need to have your certificate by the time of your interview.
• Apply to three different and eligible  UK university courses. You must have received an unconditional offer from at least one of these course choices by the deadline listed on the application timeline.

4 August 2026

• Applications open at 11:00 UTC

6 October 2026

• Applications close at 11:00 UTC
• The deadline for applications is 6 October 2026 at 11:00 UTC. You will not be able to access the online application system after this date.
• Please make sure you check what time 11:00 UTC is in your time zone.

From October 2026

• Applications are sifted against eligibility criteria.
• Read about Chevening’s eligibility criteria.

Mid October 2026 to January 2027

• Reading committee assessments
• Independent reading committees assess all eligible applications.

Mid February 2027

• Applicants shortlisted for interviews
• Once applications have been reviewed, British embassies and high commissions produce a shortlist. These candidates are invited to interview. Congratulations if you make it this far!
• To prepare for your interview, please read our interview guidance.

March to April 2027

• Interviews take place
• Candidates from all over the world are interviewed by panels at British embassies and high commissions.
• Candidates invited for an interview must upload all their documentation to the online application system at least seven working days before their interview. Documents include photo ID, undergraduate education certificate or diploma and reference letters.

Mid June 2027

• Results
• After months of preparation and trepidation, successful candidates will experience jubilation when interview results are announced from mid June onwards.

8 July 2027

• Offer Deadline
• If you are invited to interview and your interview is successful, you will be asked to submit your unconditional offer from a UK university. The deadline to receive and submit at least one unconditional UK university offer is 17:00 BST on 8 July 2027.

September/October 2027

• Studies Begin in the UK
• 2027 28 Chevening scholars commence their studies in the UK and enter into an international network that they will be a part of for the rest of their lives!

• All applications for Chevening must be completed via the online application system.
• You can access the application system during the application window by following the apply today link on the apply page of your home country or territory.

The steps on this page outline what you need to do next to complete your application.

Using the Online Application System

Click on the arrows for instructions on how to complete each step in the Chevening application system.

Step 1. Complete the Online Registration Form

• Once you have clicked apply today, you will be taken to our online application system. First, you will be asked to read and consent to the Chevening terms and conditions and Privacy Notice.
• Next, you will be asked to register your email address and mobile phone number.
• You will then receive an email with a link to the application portal.

Step 2. Pass the Eligibility Checker

• After you have clicked on the link to the application portal, answer the eligibility questions to confirm your eligibility for a Chevening Scholarship.
• You will find out immediately if you passed or failed the eligibility checker. If you did not pass but think there was an error, you will be given four more attempts.
• If you pass the eligibility checker, you will receive an email to your registered email address with a link to continue your application.

Step 3. Make a Note of Your Access Code

• Once you have followed the link in your email to continue your application, you will see an access code displayed on your screen. This access code is unique to you.
• You must keep your unique access code somewhere safe. You will need it every time you want to access your application.
• Top Tip: We recommend taking a photo of it!

Step 4. Complete Each Section of the Application Form

You will now be able to start your Chevening application.

When completing the form, keep in mind that you will be logged out of the system if you are inactive for 15 minutes, so remember to save your progress as you work through each stage!

You will need to complete each section of the application form:

Personal Details

Immigration Details

• Confirm your country of citizenship, passport number and other relevant details.

Education History

• Enter details of your education, including names of institutions attended, courses studied and results received.
• You can add up to 15 entries.

Work History

• You can add up to 15 entries of past work experiences to the application form.
• The system will then calculate if you meet Chevening’s requirement for 2,800 hours of work experience by multiplying the number of weeks by the number of hours worked for each entry. You will be able to view your total number.

Programmes of Study

• Submit details of your top three UK master’s degree course choices. You can find a full list of Chevening eligible courses on the course finder.
• You will be asked if you have already applied to each of your course choices. Please note that it is not a requirement to apply to your course choices before submitting your Chevening application.

Referees

• On your application form you will be asked to submit the names, job details and contact details of two referees.
• If you are invited to interview, you will need to upload two letters written by your chosen referees to the online application system.

Essay Questions

• Respond to the four Chevening essay questions related to leadership, relationship building, your course choices and future career goals.
• Take note of the word limits and make sure you answer in English.
• We recommend you prepare your answers to the essay questions in a separate document before copy and pasting them into the application form once finalised.

• Consent to the scholarship conditions outlined on the application form
