Eligibility Criteria:

You must have received a terminal degree (PhD or equivalent) between May 2023 and August 2027
You must have filed your dissertation before starting your appointment in September 2027
You must have a doctoral or equivalent terminal degree in any field
You must be able to demonstrate experience performing scholarly research
If your field does not typically award PhDs, you may apply with an equivalent terminal degree from your discipline

A: No, this is a postdoctoral fellowship specifically for recent recipients of a PhD or equivalent terminal degree.

A: No. Any Harvard tenure-track faculty member from any discipline can serve as your host.

Q: Can I have two faculty hosts?

A: Yes, it is possible to have co-hosts if you obtain commitments from multiple faculty members and it makes sense for your research proposal.

Q: I cannot secure a faculty host commitment. Can I still apply?

A: No. Your application will not be reviewed without a letter of support from your proposed faculty host. Obtaining this commitment can be challenging as faculty receive many requests from applicants.

Q: Is there a specific format requirement for my research proposal?

A: No. We give applicants flexibility in how they describe their research plans. We only ask that the document is easy for the review committee to read.

Q: Will my application be reviewed if I submit fewer or more than three recommendation letters?

A: Yes, the program can accommodate variations in the number of recommendation letters.

Q: Is this program open to non-US citizens?

A: Yes. The program welcomes international applicants and has had many Fellows from other countries. HUCE will work with Harvard’s International Office to support visa applications.
