Applications are now open for the Erasmus Mundus International Master in Global Markets, Local Creativities (GLOCAL), a two year master’s programme starting in September 2027. The programme covers fields such as global history, creative industries, development economics, sustainable business, global political economy and entrepreneurship. Scholarships are fully funded by the European Union.
They cover your tuition fees, full insurance and a monthly living allowance for the whole programme, with an optional contribution to travel and installation costs. Students from any country in the world can apply, and the official GLOCAL information does not mention any application fee. What This Scholarship Offers:
- Part of your tuition is paid by the Erasmus Mundus scholarship and the rest by the GLOCAL consortium, so you pay nothing.
- You are protected during your studies, which saves you the cost of arranging your own cover. See the insurance details.
- You get a steady income to pay for accommodation, food and daily expenses throughout the programme.
- An optional contribution helps you pay for visas, residence permits and temporary accommodation when you arrive.
- You study in a joint programme run by several universities, which gives you an international academic network and a strong profile for jobs or further research.
Payment Options
After you accept the scholarship, you choose one of two payment options.
Option One: Travel Payments Plus Monthly Allowance
- €1,000 paid in August, before the first semester starts
- €1,000 paid in May, at the end of Year 1
- €1,000 paid in September, at the start of Year 2
- €1,275 per month for the 2 years
Option Two: Higher Monthly Allowance Only
- €1,400 per month for the 2 years, with no separate travel or installation payments
Both options add up to the same total of €33,600 over two years. Option One simply gives you part of it earlier, when moving costs are highest.

Eligibility Criteria:
- Hold a conditional or unconditional offer from the University of Glasgow
- Not have an offer status of “holding for documents” on the scholarship deadline
- Submit all required documents, including proof of English language proficiency, by 14 January 2027
- Not have previously received an Erasmus Mundus Master Course (Action 1) scholarship
- Meet the programme entry requirements for your chosen study track
- Apply under one nationality only, if you hold more than one
Final year undergraduate students can send official transcripts to date at the deadline and provide final transcripts and degree certificates later, by the offer conditions deadline.

Where You Will Study:
GLOCAL is delivered by seven partner universities: the University of Glasgow, the University of Barcelona, Uppsala University, the University of Göttingen, Erasmus University Rotterdam, the University of the Andes in Bogotá and Kyoto University. You spend time at three of them, in this order:
- First mobility: Glasgow or Göttingen, depending on your track
- Second mobility: Barcelona or Uppsala, depending on your track
- Third mobility: Bogotá, Glasgow, Göttingen, Kyoto or Rotterdam, depending on your track
All teaching is in English. You are encouraged to study an additional language, which can continue over four semesters. Every student gets one language class in the first semester at the University of Glasgow, included in the tuition fee.

How Scholarship Applications Are Selected:
The GLOCAL consortium reviews and ranks all applications, and the top ranked applicants receive scholarships. A reserve list is kept, and if a winner withdraws, the first eligible reserve candidate is contacted.
- Personal Statement: 40%
- Academic Merit: 30%
- Quality of References: 10%
- Other, such as relevant research and professional experience: 20%
Required Documents:
- The Scholarship Application Form, signed, dated and saved as a PDF, with your chosen study track marked
- A CV in any format (Europass is preferred)
- Two signed references on headed paper
- Transcripts of all university level studies, in the original language and with an official English translation if needed
- Degree certificates of all university level studies, in the original language and with an official English translation if needed
- Proof of English language proficiency (see the English language requirements)
- A colour scan of the photo page of your current passport
- A personal statement of no more than 1,200 words
Two Ways to Submit References
- Option 1: Your referee emails the reference directly to [email protected] from their institutional email address. You must also upload a document with your application confirming the email address it will be sent from.
- Option 2: You upload the reference with your application through the portal. It must include an official email address.
You cannot enrol until all documents are received and you have accepted an Unconditional offer.
