Applications are now open for PhD positions at the Life Science Zurich Graduate School. This is a joint program of ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich in Switzerland. The program offers fully funded PhD opportunities in life sciences. Selected students receive competitive salaries and comprehensive research training. It welcomes highly motivated international students with a strong academic background. There is no application fee. Deadlines are 1 May and 1 November each year. Funding and Living Support:

  • University of Zurich offers salaries between CHF 48,686 and CHF 51,791+ per year depending on the year and employment level
  • ETH Zurich offers salaries between CHF 50,700 and CHF 53,900+ per year
  • These salaries are funded directly by the research groups
  • After taxes and social security deductions the net income is enough for comfortable living in Zurich
  • Living costs in Zurich are approximately CHF 2,000 per month which covers accommodation, food, and transport
  • Health insurance is compulsory and costs around CHF 350 to 500 per month

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Hold or expect to complete a university Masters degree or equivalent in natural sciences, computer sciences, engineering or a closely related field
  • Have an excellent academic track record
  • Show good skills in spoken and written English
  • Be highly motivated for research

Special Notes:

  • Medical graduates (MD) should apply to the MD PhD or Clinical Science program
  • A Bachelors degree alone is not sufficient
  • Degrees from universities of applied sciences are accepted but final university admission depends on formal review
