White House Internship Program for Summer 2027

Applications are now open for the White House Internship Program for Summer 2027. This fully funded opportunity is available to young leaders who want to gain real-world experience in the Executive Office. It is open only to U.S. citizens who meet the specific eligibility rules. The Fall 2026 program (your focus for 2027 planning) centers on leadership development and community work while honoring the White House as a training ground for the next generation.

Presidential Departments:

Domestic Policy Council

  • Supervises the development, coordination, and execution of domestic policy in the White House
  • Offers advice to the President and represents his priorities to Congress
  • Interns work closely with staff on specific policy areas: education, energy and the environment, healthcare, immigration, infrastructure, labor, transportation, urban affairs, and veterans’ affairs
  • May also work alongside the speechwriting department on research and fact-checking

National Economic Council

  • Coordinates the domestic and international economic policymaking process and provides economic policy advice to the President
  • Policy portfolio includes: healthcare, tax and retirement, the financial system, macroeconomics, infrastructure, agriculture, technology, telecommunications, cyber-security, energy and the environment, and trade
  • Interns assist with in-depth research, coordinate policy meetings, and provide general administrative support

Office of Cabinet Affairs

  • Primary liaison between the President and his Cabinet
  • Coordinates communications, policy, and logistics between the White House and the Cabinet
  • Manages issues that affect multiple federal agencies

Office of Digital Strategy

  • Uses digital platforms to amplify the President’s message and engage with citizens online
  • Interns assist in digital content creation, design, and engagement

Office of Intergovernmental Affairs (IGA)

  • Responsible for building relationships with state, county, local, and tribal officials
  • Interns work alongside staff to build and maintain relationships with governors, tribal leaders, mayors, county executives, and commissioners
  • Assist in managing the substantial volume of incoming requests from public officials around the country

Office of the Second Lady

  • Supports the Second Lady and assists with the execution of her responsibilities and public role as the Second Lady of the United States
  • Interns work closely with members of the Second Lady’s team
  • Contribute to the planning, coordination, and implementation of her initiatives within the White House Complex and in communities across the country
  • Includes helping with event preparation, policy-related projects, outreach efforts, and day-to-day operations

White House Office of Legislative Affairs

  • Responsible for advancing the President’s legislative agenda on Capitol Hill
  • Interns work alongside staff members in the Senate and House liaison offices
  • Help notify Senators and Representatives about administration initiatives
  • Assist with research on legislation and floor activity
  • Staff legislative events

White House Management Office

  • Manages facilities, operations, and numerous special projects throughout the White House Complex
  • Staff frequently interact with all other White House Offices
  • Answer administrative questions, facilitate the assignment and distribution of staff privileges, and coordinate White House Complex access for visitors

White House Photo Office

  • Documents and captures the history of the presidency
  • Programming geared toward candidates who are looking to build leadership skills in photography and photojournalism
  • Specific intern responsibilities: editing and toning photos, maintaining the photo database, and assisting with various logistical and administrative tasks
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and macOS is a requirement

White House Visitors Office

  • Facilitates events on the White House Complex, including White House Tours, seasonal holidays, South Lawn events, and garden tours
  • Interns aid the day-to-day functioning of the office, assisting with key organizational initiatives and event planning

Office of Political Affairs (OPA)

  • Develops, supports, and advances partnerships in support of the President and his policy agenda
  • Interns assist in political analysis, opinion research, and direct outreach to key constituencies

Office of Presidential Advance

  • Plans, organizes, and executes presidential events across the country and around the world
  • Interns assist in the coordination of presidential travel and events
  • Require frequent interaction with White House offices and outside entities

Office of Presidential Correspondence

  • Facilitates an open dialogue between the President and the American people
  • Mission: listen to and understand constituents’ views, experiences, and ideas, and coordinate a response on behalf of the President
  • Interns assist staff in the facilitation of communications, including receiving/replying to letters and emails, calls to the White House Comment Line, gifts, requests for proclamations/messages, greetings, and assistance throughout the Federal Government

Office of Presidential Personnel

  • Oversees the selection process for presidential appointments
  • Recruits candidates to serve the President in departments and agencies throughout the Executive Branch
  • Presents candidates to the Senate for confirmation after they have been approved by the President and cleared
  • Interns help staff review candidates, communicate with departments and agencies on personnel matters, and ensure that the personnel priorities of the Administration are being addressed

Office of Public Liaison (OPL)

  • Primary line of communication between the White House and the public
  • Communicates with organizations, coalitions, and Americans from all backgrounds
  • Interns work alongside staff to assist building new and maintaining current relationships with organizations, coordinating events, and assisting with office operations

Office of Speechwriting

  • Researches, prepares, and writes the President’s speeches
  • Interns assist with research and have the opportunity to witness the process of presidential speechwriting firsthand

Office of the First Lady

  • Provides assistance to the First Lady and supports her role and duties as First Lady of the United States
  • Interns work alongside the Office of the First Lady team to support her initiatives both on the White House Complex and across the nation

Office of the Staff Secretary

  • Prepares the daily briefing book, which requires close coordination with each component of the White House
  • Ensures that the details surrounding presidential actions, speeches, events, correspondence, and press releases are properly vetted
  • Interns assist in collecting essential, time-sensitive information from White House components and reviewing, revising, and finalizing memoranda for the President
  • Requirements: strong attention to detail, proactive mentality, organizational, editing, and interpersonal skills

Office of the Vice President

Supports the Vice President J.D. Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance

  • Provides internship opportunities through the following offices:

White House Press Office

  • Works with members of the media from around the world
  • Interns work in different areas, including national press, communications, and messaging
  • Applicants expected to have an interest in media relations, strategic messaging, or political communications
  • Must keep up with the 24-hour news cycle in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment

Office of White House Counsel

  • Advises the President, the Executive Office of the President, and the White House staff on legal issues pertaining to the President and the White House
  • Sits at the intersection of law, policy, and politics
  • Interns assist White House Counsel staff on a variety of research and administrative matters

Office of Presidential Scheduling

  • Responsible for managing and coordinating the President’s meetings, public engagements, and daily activities both on and off the White House Complex
  • Coordinates with various components, including the White House Military Office, United States Secret Service, senior White House staff, external organizations, and others, to create an agenda that strategically advances the President’s priorities and effectively serves the American people

White House Travel Office

  • Mission: provide administrative and logistical support for the President, both domestically and internationally
  • Responsibilities include: travel budgets, hotel accommodations, air/ground transportation, per diems, passports, and travel visas
  • Additionally facilitates news coverage of the President by providing logistical support to the White House Press Corps in conjunction with the President’s travel
  • Interns join a committed team requiring organization skills and attention to detail for various logistical and administrative tasks

Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy (OTMP)

  • Advises the President on policies to increase economic growth, decrease the trade deficit, and strengthen the United States manufacturing and the defense industrial base
  • Works on matters including strengthening and expanding “Buy American, Hire American” laws and promoting American manufacturing through tariffs and other trade actions
  • Interns have the opportunity to work closely with office staff, assisting with in-depth research, coordinating policy meetings, and providing general administrative support

National Energy Dominance Council (NEDC)

  • Established by Executive Order
  • Works to support domestic energy projects and develop policies that will increase domestic energy production and achieve American energy dominance
  • Led by Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum and Secretary of Energy Chris Wright
  • Plays a key role in the Trump Administration’s work to lower energy prices, meet the rising demand for affordable energy, strengthen economic security, and ensure the American energy industry is best positioned as a global leader over the next century

White House Faith Office (WHFO)

  • Established by Executive Order
  • Newly-created, historic office that partners with, gives voice to, and advocates for faith-based entities, community organizations, and houses of worship throughout the nation
  • At the President’s direction, the WHFO partners with the faith community on ten key initiatives, including defending religious liberty, combatting anti-religious bias, strengthening marriage and family, and fostering flourishing minds
  • Interns may assist the Office in carrying out its mission through tasks such as research, writing, policy development, stakeholder engagement, office administration, and event coordination

General Requirements You Must Meet:

Additional Eligibility Choose at Least One:

  • You are currently enrolled in college or university and have already completed two semesters
  • You graduated from college or university no more than two years ago
  • You are a veteran with a high school diploma who served on active duty in the past two years

Important Questions Answered

  • Is the White House Internship paid?
    • No. It is an unpaid position. Contact your college or a non-profit for possible help. Any outside income or housing must get pre-approval.
  • What are the working hours?
    • Expect Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (4.5 days a week minimum). Some students with classes may leave early one day.
  • Is housing provided? No. You must arrange your own housing.
  • Does political preference matter?
    • No. You only need a real commitment to public service and the administration’s mission.
  • How do I submit my application?

  • Who writes the recommendation letters?
