Applications are now open for six (6) Entry-Level PhD Researcher positions at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), Portugal. These positions are part of the ARISE – Associate Laboratory for Advanced Production and Intelligent Systems (reference LA/P/0112/2020).

The positions are funded by national funds through FCT/MECI and are available in Computer Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Applied Mathematics. Each selected researcher will receive a monthly salary of €2,408.11. These opportunities are open to national and international applicants. There is no application fee. Eligibility Criteria :

  • Hold a PhD degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Demonstrate strong research competencies in modelling, algorithms, intelligent systems, robotics, machine learning, or optimization.
  • Have relevant scientific publications in international journals or conferences.
  • Show experience in R&D projects and teamwork.
  • Foreign PhDs must be recognized in Portugal by the hiring date.

All 6 Positions:

  1. TL1 – New Materials and Components :
    Focus: Development and characterization of new structural and functional materials, computational tools, modelling, and simulation.
  2. TL2 – Advanced Manufacturing Systems and Processes:
    Focus: Advanced manufacturing, digital production, automation, sustainability, and prototype development.
  3. TL3 – Sustainable Energy Systems :
    Focus: Low-carbon energy solutions, renewable energy integration, modelling, and optimization of energy systems.
  4. TL4 – Intelligent Systems and Robotics :
    Focus: Autonomous systems, robotics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and experimental validation.
  5. TL5 – Digital Ecosystem, Sustainability, Risk and Management :
    Focus: Computational models, risk analysis, sustainability assessment, and decision-support tools.
  6. Cross-Thematic / General Position :
    Researchers may work across multiple thematic lines depending on project needs, including scientific publications, prototypes, and knowledge transfer activities.
