SNSF Postdoc Mobility Fellowship in Switzerland (Fully funded)

The SNSF Postdoc.Mobility fellowship supports postdoctoral researchers who want to conduct a research stay abroad. The goal is to help them gain deeper expertise, build international networks, become more scientifically independent, and strengthen their research profile for a future scientific or academic career in Switzerland.

The fellowship covers living costs, travel, and research/conference expenses. It can be combined with an optional return grant for the first period back in Switzerland. You can check out more InternshipsBS, MSPhD and postdoc positions here.

To prepare for this transition and focus on the most relevant target groups, the SNSF has updated the eligibility criteria.

Who can apply for Postdoc.Mobility:

You may apply if you meet these criteria:

  • You hold Swiss citizenship or a Swiss permanent settlement permit (C-permit)
  • You are married to or in a registered partnership with a Swiss citizen
  • OR you have a degree from a Swiss institution (doctorate/PhD or MD, or state examination) and you have not already held a postdoctoral position abroad

New eligibility window:

You can submit your application up to 6 months before the date of your thesis defense (previously 9 months).

Important:

The research stay abroad must be at a non-commercial research institution outside your home country (or exceptional justified cases in your home country).

What the fellowship covers:

  • Fellowship basic grant (living allowance)
  • Research funds (up to CHF 5 000 per year)
  • Travel allowance (flat-rate)
  • Child allowance (if applicable)
  • Return grant (salary + social security contributions for the initial research period back in Switzerland)

Return grant:

The return grant is submitted during the ongoing Postdoc.Mobility fellowship. Deadline: 4 August 2026 (Swiss local time)
