MS & BS Scholarships for Talented Students in Slovakia 2026/2027

Applications are now open for the Scholarships for Talented Students from All Over the World for full-time bachelor’s, combined bachelor’s & master’s, and master’s studies in Slovakia for the academic year 2026/2027. This is a partial scholarship (monthly living stipend of €500) worth up to €15,000 in total. It supports selected study programmes under the Smart Specialisation Strategy of the Slovak Republic

The application deadline is 8 September 2026, 23:59 CEST. It is open to international students from all countries (including Slovaks living abroad) who meet the eligibility conditions. What This Scholarship Offers:

This provides up to €15,000 in total financial support over the eligible study period.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must meet all of the following conditions:

Hold citizenship of a country other than Slovakia (confirmed by a notarised copy of passport or national ID for EU/EEA/Switzerland applicants). Dual citizenship including Slovak is allowed. Slovaks living abroad must submit the relevant Certificate.
Have had no permanent residence in Slovakia between 1 January 2021 and the application deadline.
Have no previous secondary school studies in Slovakia (exception applies to Slovaks living abroad with the required Certificate).
For bachelor’s level: no previous higher education studies in Slovakia (except academic mobility). Master’s level applicants may have prior Slovak higher education studies under the stated rules.
Apply for (and later enrol in) a full-time study programme at a selected public or state Slovak higher education institution that belongs to the SK RIS3 2021+ list.
Submit a structured CV in English and a motivation letter in English explaining motivation for studying in Slovakia and demonstrating talent.
Achieve the minimum standardised test result: SAT total score of at least 1,100 or SCIO average percentile of at least 63 (Mathematics + General Academic Prerequisites).
Applicants under 18 must provide signed consent from a legal guardian.

Number of scholarships available:

Bachelor’s / joint bachelor’s & master’s level:

Up to 170 scholarships
110 funded by ESIF (higher education institutions outside the Bratislava region)
60 funded by the state budget (higher education institutions in the Bratislava region)

Master’s level:

Up to 55 scholarships
35 funded by ESIF (outside Bratislava region)
20 funded by the state budget (Bratislava region)

The Ministry may adjust the numbers. If needed, applicants may be divided into geographical groups for ranking.

Scholarship payment:

After official enrolment in the first year of a selected full-time SK RIS3 study programme, the higher education institution issues a Decision on the Award of the Scholarship and begins monthly payments of €500. Payments cover the eligible months and may include retroactive amounts if needed.

What happens after the deadline:

The Ministry verifies eligibility and documents
Eligible applicants are ranked by percentile score
Preliminary and final lists of successful applicants are published
Successful applicants must enrol and start studies in autumn 2026 to receive the scholarship

Important additional information:

Receiving the scholarship does not automatically mean admission to a higher education institution. You must apply separately to the institution.
Tuition fee waiver for programmes taught in a foreign language is decided by the higher education institution.
Public health insurance may be available under certain conditions.
Non-EU applicants must arrange the appropriate national D visa and temporary residence for the purpose of study.

Once submitted, the application cannot be edited. Incomplete applications or those remaining “in progress” after the deadline will not be assessed.
