Matsumae International Foundation Research Fellowship Program 2027

Applications are now open for the Matsumae International Foundation Research Fellowship Program 2027. This fully funded fellowship offers young researchers the opportunity to conduct research in Japan for six months. It is open to PhD holders from around the world in the fields of natural sciences, engineering, medicine, and agriculture. The program provides generous financial support including monthly stipend, air travel, and insurance. There is no application fee. The application deadline is June 30, 2026. Eligibility Criteria:

  • Hold a PhD degree at the time of application
  • Be 45 years old or younger (born in 1981 or later)
  • Have a full-time job in their home country and plan to return after the fellowship to contribute to their country’s development
  • Have no previous or current long-term stay experience in Japan (short visits for conferences or tourism are acceptable)
  • Obtain an acceptance letter from a host professor or institution in Japan before applying
  • Have good English or Japanese language skills
  • Strongly empathize with the goals and principles of the Matsumae International Foundation
