Humboldt Postdoc Research Fellowship in Germany 2026 – Fully Funded

Applications are now open for the prestigious Humboldt Research Fellowship 2026 in Germany. This fully funded fellowship is offered by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation to outstanding postdoctoral and experienced researchers from all over the world (excluding Germany). Researchers can conduct their own independent research project at any German university or research institute of their choice.   • Degree Level: Postdoctoral / Experienced Researchers
  • Host Country: Germany
  • Duration: 6 to 24 months (Postdocs) | 6 to 18 months (Experienced Researchers)
  • Stipend: €3,000 per month (Postdocs) | €3,600 per month (Experienced Researchers)
  • Application Deadline: Three calls per year – 15 March 2026, 15 July 2026, and 15 November 2026
  • Eligible Nationalities: All countries except Germany
  • Application Fee: None
  • Fields: Open to all academic disciplines

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Nationality: You must not be a German citizen. German nationals can only apply if they have lived and worked abroad for more than 10 years.
  • Residency: You should not have lived in Germany for more than 90 days in the 18 months before applying.
  • Academic Requirements:
    • Postdocs: Must have completed your PhD within the last 4 years (or will complete before the selection meeting).
    • Experienced Researchers: Must have completed your PhD within the last 12 years and have a strong publication record plus leadership experience.
  • Language Skills: Good command of English or German (German is required only if necessary for your research).
  • You must find a German host researcher who agrees to support your project.

How to Apply:

  1. Find a suitable host researcher at a German university or research institute.
  2. Prepare all required documents (CV, research proposal, publication list, etc.).
  3. Submit your application online through the official Humboldt Foundation portal during an open call.
  4. Ask two experts to upload their recommendation letters.
  5. Your host must upload the host statement and confirmation of research facilities.
