Duration:

• 12 months at one of the participating ERCIM member institutes.

Fellowship Allowances:

The monthly allowance or salary depends on the country and type of contract (stipend or working contract). Here are the rates for the 2026 round:

• Sweden: 2925 euros
• Portugal: 1807 euros
• Norway: 4415 euros
• Netherlands: 2625 euros
• Italy: 2240 euros
• Germany: 3000 euros

Taxes and deductions may apply in some countries, so consult the host institute for exact net pay.

Benefits and Insurance:

• Full health insurance is included for the duration of the fellowship.
• Travel costs to and from the host institute are reimbursed (up to 500 euros per trip).
• You can attend and present at scientific conferences (registration and travel costs covered if your paper is accepted).
• Additional funding for conference participation and Open Access journal processing fees is available.

Eligibility Conditions:

• You must have obtained your PhD within the last 8 years (before the application deadline) or be in your final year of thesis work with an outstanding record. Proof of the PhD is required before the fellowship starts.
• You cannot be hosted by an institute if you have already worked there for 6 months or more in the last 3 years (including during your PhD or early postdoc).
• The same institute cannot host you twice (reselection is possible only once).

Selection Process:

Applications are reviewed by senior scientists at the potential host institutes. Selection is based on:

• Scientific expertise and quality of publications.
• Relevance of your proposed research to the institute’s work.

The number of positions each round depends on the institutes’ needs and funding.

Where You Will Be Hosted:

• Only at ERCIM member institutes across Europe.
• Possible locations include institutes in France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and others.
• The specific institute depends on the needs of the host and available funding.
