What Is the CERN Technical Studentship?
The Technical Studentship gives students in applied sciences, computing, and engineering the chance to gain hands-on experience in a world-class scientific environment. You will work on real projects that contribute to CERN’s mission, apply your academic knowledge to practical challenges, and build both technical and soft skills in an international setting.
By the end of the placement, students walk away with practical experience and a stronger foundation for a future career in science or technology.

What CERN Offers:
This studentship is a paid opportunity with a strong benefits package. Successful candidates receive the following.
- A monthly net allowance of 3,486 Swiss Francs
- Coverage under CERN’s comprehensive Health Insurance scheme (the contribution is automatically deducted from the allowance)
- A family supplement to the subsistence allowance, depending on individual circumstances
- Travel expenses to Geneva upon joining, depending on individual circumstances
- 30 days of paid leave per year, plus 2 weeks of annual closure
- A contract lasting between 4 and 12 months

Eligibility Criteria:
Before applying, check that you meet all three requirements below.
1. Nationality
You must be a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
Important note: applications from Pakistani, Lithuanian, Latvian, Cypriot, and Croatian nationals are currently not being considered, as the quota under Article II.5 of the Associate Membership Agreement has been reached for these countries.
2. Educational Background and Student Status
- You must have completed at least 18 months of your overall studies (3 semesters) in the relevant field by the time of selection
- PhD students and PhD holders are not eligible
- You must remain enrolled as a full-time student throughout the studentship
3. Language Skills
- A good knowledge of English or French is required

CERN is recruiting Technical Students across several fields for the 2027 cycle, including:
- Applied Physics
- Chemical, Materials & Process Engineering (Material & Surface Science)
- Civil Engineering
- Data Science, AI & Analytics (IT, Mathematics & Robotics)
- Electrical and Electronics Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
All listed positions are full-time, on-site roles in Geneva, with contracts running from 4 to 12 months.

How to Apply: The Recruitment Process:
The application process has three main stages.
Step 1: Submit Your Application
Apply with your CV in English or French and complete the online application form before the deadline. You may also add an academic reference letter and transcript, though this is optional.
Step 2: Application Review and Interview
Your application will be reviewed by the hiring team. If shortlisted, you will be invited to an online interview with the hiring manager to discuss your background, CERN, and the role, and to see if it is a good mutual fit.
Step 3: Offer and Onboarding
If successful, you will receive a formal offer. Once you accept, the onboarding process begins.
