The Mitacs Globalink Research Internship program is a competitive initiative that connects undergraduate students from Mitacs partner countries with Canadian academic faculty members. You will spend 12 weeks conducting hands-on research in your chosen field at one of over 70 Canadian universities.
This program offers a unique international experience, professional development opportunities, and access to Canada’s dynamic research environment. It is open to students who meet the eligibility criteria below.

Who Is Eligible?
Applicants must meet all of the following general requirements:
- Be at least 18 years old at the time of application
- Be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or combined undergraduate/master’s program at an eligible institution
- Have completed at least two years of undergraduate study (or be in the second year of the current program)
- Have one to three semesters remaining in their program as of fall 2027
- Meet the specific GPA requirements for their country of study
- Apply to a minimum of three and a maximum of ten projects, ensuring selections are from at least three different Canadian provinces
- Be fluent in the oral and written language of the project (English and/or French)
- Be available to complete 12 consecutive weeks between May 1 and October 31, 2027 (must start any time between May 1 and July 31)
- Not have previously received a Globalink Research Internship award

What the Program Offers:
A Mitacs Globalink Research Internship includes:
- A 12-week research internship under the supervision of a Canadian faculty member
- Hands-on research experience in a variety of academic disciplines
- Access to Canada’s excellent universities, research facilities, and innovation ecosystem
- Professional skills development courses and social activities
- Support from student mentors on campus
- Access to industry events and professional development opportunities
- Funding for round-trip airfare, transportation to accommodation, housing stipend, food and incidentals, student fees, and emergency health insurance
- Support from Mitacs once the internship begins
Interns are expected to work 40 hours per week during regular business hours. They must remain in Canada for the full 12 weeks.

Responsibilities of the Intern:
Interns must:
- Complete the full 12-week internship working 40 hours per week
- Stay in Canada for the entire duration
- Communicate with the host professor if missing time due to illness or Mitacs events
- Attend optional industry, government, or professional development events (with supervisor approval)
- Agree to the Code of Conduct, liability waiver, and immigration policy
- Comply with all host institution and Mitacs policies

Responsibilities of the Professor:
Host professors must:
- Ensure the following is in place for their Globalink research intern prior to the start of the internship (as required):
- Research supervision
- Email and internet access
- Lab and/or office space
- Software or hardware
- Any safety or orientation information required for the project
- Ensure interns are fully supported during the internship
- Comply with Canadian host institution policies on research ethics

Important Information:
- Mitacs will notify students of internship details between mid-December and mid-February 2027
- If you are not accepted, you may reapply the following year as long as you remain eligible
- Project cancellations require consultation with Mitacs and may result in partial or full funding return

All reference letters must follow these instructions
Format
- Use official letterhead of the academic institution
- Include the professor’s full name, title, department, and contact details
- Date the letter
What to Include
- Your full name and the date you requested the letter
- Confirmation that you are an undergraduate student in good standing
- Specific details about the Globalink Research Internship program
- A clear statement that you are highly motivated and eager for advanced research
Recommended Body Paragraphs
- Briefly describe your academic background and standing
- Explain your research interests and previous experiences
- Highlight leadership, teamwork, or project experience
- State your strong desire to participate
Closing Paragraph
Thank the professor for their time and offer to provide more information.

Tips
- Ask at least 2–3 weeks before the deadline
