This prestigious fellowship program is designed for Australian organisations in partnership with overseas counterpart organisations to sponsor senior officials and mid-career professionals from eligible developing countries.

The Australia Awards Fellowship is a fully funded opportunity with financial support provided by Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). While individual fellows do not pay application fees, Australian host organisations must demonstrate a co-contribution (in-kind or financial) to participate in the program. Eligibility Criteria:

Be a minimum of 18 years of age at the start of the fellowship
Be a citizen of an eligible developing country
Be currently residing in an eligible developing country
Not be an Australian citizen or applying for Australian citizenship (including dual citizenship with Australia)
Not hold Australian permanent resident status or be applying for it
Not be current serving military personnel
Not be married to, engaged to, or in a de facto relationship with someone who holds, or is eligible to hold, Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency
Have relevant work experience in their country of citizenship or residency in an area related to the fellowship activities
Be able to commit full-time to the fellowship for its entire duration as proposed by the Australian Host Organisation
be able to satisfy all requirements determined by the Department of Home Affairs for a visa;
Be able to travel without family members (funding is only provided for individual fellows)
Have adequate English language proficiency to fully participate in all activities and complete required assessments
Not be subject to any visa or character issues that would prevent entry to Australia

Application Compliance Criteria:

Applications must meet all of the following mandatory criteria to progress to the assessment stage:

Provide all information in the specified format
Application submitted by a legal Australian Entity with a current ABN
Applicant is not an individual or OCO
Submitting officer is an employee of the Australian Organisation
Applicant Organisation has not exceeded six applications
Application includes a maximum of 15 DFAT-funded Fellows (does not include AHO/OCO funded Fellows)
Application only covers eligible countries
Application includes a co-contribution from the Australian Organisation
In-partner country activity is included
Proposal aligns with one of the six development priority areas
A minimum of two weeks is delivered in Australia
Proposed Fellowship duration is between 2 and 52 weeks (inclusive of in-Australia, online, and in-partner country activities)
In-Australia activity duration is longer than the in-partner country activity duration
OCO is from an eligible ODA listed country
OCOs cannot be an international arm or branch of the Australian organisation, nor under the same overarching international organisation or international consortium
OCO must operate and reside in an eligible country
Applicant is not listed in the National Redress Scheme (Institutions that have not joined or signified intent to join the Scheme)
Applicant is not listed on any of these proscribed lists:
- Anticorruption and Integrity: Sanctions
- World Bank Listing of Ineligible Firms and Individuals
- Terrorist organisations
- Consolidated List (DFAT)
