AAUW International Fellowships 2027 in United States (Fully funded)

The AAUW International Fellowships support women like you who want to study full-time in a STEM field and return home to make a real difference. Since 1917, more than 3,600 women from over 150 countries have received these awards.

You will gain advanced knowledge in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics, build strong leadership skills, and create lasting change in your community or country. The program focuses on women who already show academic excellence and a clear plan to use their expertise to help other women and girls. Who Can Apply?

You must meet every requirement below:

• You identify as a woman
• You hold a degree that is at least equal to a U.S. bachelor’s degree
• Your highest earned degree has a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
• You are admitted to or currently enrolled in a full-time master’s or doctoral program in a STEM field
• You begin your program on or before September 15, 2027, and finish it on or after April 30, 2028
• You study full-time at a U.S. Department of Education-accredited institution
• You are a non-U.S. citizen and do not hold U.S. permanent resident status (green card)
• You plan to apply your STEM skills and leadership in your home country or community

Award Details:

• Master’s degree: $20,000 stipend paid in two equal installments
• Doctorate degree: $25,000 stipend paid in two equal installments

These funds cover tuition, fees, books, supplies, living expenses, and dependent care.

Application Timeline:

• Applications open: August 17, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time
• Applications close: September 17, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time
• Award decisions: March 2027
• First stipend: July – September 2027
• Second stipend: December 2027 or January 2028
• Final report due: July 31, 2028

Who Is Not Eligible:

• Current AAUW Board members
• Current AAUW employees (paid or unpaid)
• Current AAUW review panelists
• Immediate family (spouses and dependent children) of anyone listed above
• Previous AAUW International Fellowship or grant recipients (except Community Action Grants or local branch awards)

Application Requirements:

• Two letters of recommendation from professors, advisors, or colleagues (use professional emails only; no dossier services)
• Copies of all degrees earned (diplomas or official transcripts)
• Official transcripts for every degree
• Proof that your highest degree’s cumulative GPA is 3.5 on a 4.0 scale (with full grade list)
• Proof of English proficiency (TOEFL iBT 79, IELTS 6.5, Cambridge 176, Duolingo 120, or statement that English is your native language)
• Proof of admission or current enrollment (admission letter or enrollment letter)
• If studying outside the United States and your country is not on the U.S. travel ban list: official Graduate Women International (GWI) membership proof

All foreign-language documents need certified English translations.

Selection Criteria:

• Academic records and achievements

• Confirmed or pending funding plus a clear funding gap
• Long-term career goals that include returning home
• First international academic experience (preferred)
• Living in your home country at application time (preferred)
• Low representation of your country among past winners (preferred)
• Single-parent or parenting-student status (preferred)
• Study at R2 institutions or those with limited research resources (encouraged)

Important Additional Information:

• You may list up to five programs but must attend one of them if awarded
• The fellowship is not renewable
• AAUW does not help with visas or J-1 waivers
• Funds cannot cover research assistants, publication costs, institutional overhead, or tuition for dependents
