42nd Cycle PhD Scholarships at Politecnico di Torino, Italy

Applications are now open for fully funded PhD scholarships at Politecnico di Torino in Italy for the 42nd cycle (2026/2027). This is an excellent opportunity for Master’s graduates who want to carry out advanced research in engineering, architecture, design, physics, mathematics, and many related fields.

Most positions are fully funded, with a small number of scholarship-free spots also available. The programme is open to both Italian and international students from all nationalities. There is a non-refundable €30 application fee per programme. There are three separate application sessions. The first session closes soon — on 30 April 2026 at 2:00 PM CET. Positions are divided into two main categories:

1. Regular Positions

  • Fully-funded scholarships with open research topic → Thesis topic agreed after admission
  • Fully-funded scholarships with predefined research topic → Specific topic (you must select these)
  • Apprenticeship format → PhD + paid company contract (max age 29 at hiring)
  • Positions without scholarship

2. Reserved Positions

  • Scholarships from foreign governments
  • POLITO for REFUGEES Project (international protection beneficiaries)
  • Specific international initiatives
  • Positions reserved for current research fellows

What This Scholarship Offers:

  • You get €18,854.52 per year (about €1,386 net per month) for up to 36 months.
  • The scholarship is renewed every year if you complete the required activities.
  • You receive an extra +50% on the scholarship for any research periods spent abroad.
  • You get a research budget equal to 10% of the total scholarship to cover conferences, materials, and other research costs.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • You hold (or will soon complete) a Master’s degree (or equivalent second-level degree).
  • For Italian degrees: minimum final grade of 95/110.
  • For foreign degrees: minimum GPA as listed in Annex 2 of the Call.
  • You have B2 English language certification (from the list in Annex 4)
  • You can apply “conditionally” if you have not yet graduated (you must finish by the required date for your session).
  • No age limit for most positions
