London South Bank University PhD Scholarships

London South Bank University (LSBU) is a modern university committed to transforming lives, communities, businesses, and society through applied education and research. Its PhD Scholarships sit at the heart of this mission.

Through its Doctoral College, LSBU offers a wide range of doctoral programmes, including PhDs, professional doctorates (such as EdD and Health and Social Care), and Master’s by Research degrees. Types of Scholarships:

For the 2025/26 academic year, two types of scholarship funding are available:

LSBU Chancellor’s Scholarships

This round offers approximately 100 fee waiver awards, covering tuition fees only for four years.

CTE PhD Studentship

The College of Technology and Environment will additionally fund one CTE PhD Studentship. This award covers:

  • Three years of tuition fees
  • An annual stipend of £21,622 (2025/26 rate, including London Weighting)
  • A tuition fee waiver for the fourth writing up year (no stipend included in year four)

Both scholarships give recipients the chance to work with leading researchers and gain advanced education, supervision, mentoring, civic engagement, networking opportunities, and industry engagement.

What This Scholarship Offers:

  • A full tuition fee waiver for four years under the Chancellor’s Scholarship
  • Full tuition fee coverage for three years, plus a fourth year fee waiver, under the CTE PhD Studentship
  • An annual stipend of £21,622 (2025/26 rate, including London Weighting) for three years under the CTE PhD Studentship
  • The chance to work closely with leading researchers in their field

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must be new PhD students. Current LSBU PhD or doctoral students, such as those on EdD or ProfDoc programmes, are not eligible
  • A minimum of a 2:1 honours degree from a UK university, or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution
  • Relevant professional experience, publications, or written reports may also support an application
  • Open to applicants from the UK, EU, and international countries
  • Applicants must be able to commit to full time study
  • International applicants are responsible for their own visa costs and CAS insurance
