  • You spend at least 50% of your time at the academic partner institution.
  • You spend at least 6 months with the industry partner, in blocks or spread out (for example, 2 days per week).
  • The industry partner, research lab and industry advisor must all be based in Europe.

Interdisciplinary Track

You collaborate with an academic partner in a field unrelated to AI.

  • You spend at least 50% of your time with your primary advisor.

Apply in Parallel If Required:

Some institutions have their own strict graduate program deadlines, sometimes as early as December. If your advisor’s profile says a parallel application is necessary, do not wait for the ELLIS results.

  • Missing the institution’s deadline could delay your start by a year.
  • In the worst case, you could lose the position if the advisor’s funding expires.
  • If you are unsure, check the institution’s website or contact your preferred advisor.
  • The safest option is to apply to both in parallel.

Important Dates:

  • 30 September 2026: Virtual information session (already held)
  • 1 October 2026: Application portal opens
  • 31 October 2026, 23:59 AoE: Application deadline (firm)
  • 25 November 2026, 23:59 AoE: Reference letter deadline
  • November to December 2026: Review stage
  • January to February 2027: Interview stage
  • Late February to March 2027: Decisions
  • Depends on advisor and institution: Program start
