Applications are now open for the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree in International Humanitarian Action (NOHA) for the 2027 to 2029 intake. This two year Master’s programme is open to students from all nationalities who hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as law, social sciences, medical sciences, engineering or humanities.
Students study in at least two European countries and can also complete a regional training period at partner universities in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, Australia or North America. Scholarship applicants must apply by 15 December 2026, and self funded applicants have until 1 April 2027. Selected scholars receive 1,400 € per month for 24 months, a total of 33,600 €, to cover travel, visa, installation and living costs. You can check out BS, MS, PhD and postdoc positions here.

Eligibility Criteria:
Academic requirements
- You must hold a Bachelor’s degree (minimum 180 ECTS, EQF level 6) in a field relevant to humanitarian action.
- For the scholarship, you must have completed your degree before the 15 December 2026 deadline.
- Candidates who are still studying can only apply as self funded students.
Language requirements
- English proof is required for most universities, unless you are a native speaker from an English speaking country or your entire Bachelor’s was taught in English.
- Accepted tests are TOEFL iBT (overall 5, writing at least 5, no part below 4.5 on the 0 to 5 scale), IELTS (overall 6.5, no part below 6.0), and Cambridge CAE or CPE. Home versions of TOEFL and IELTS are not accepted.
- Spanish B2 is needed only if you choose Deusto for the first semester.
- French C1 is needed only if you choose Aix Marseille.
Scholarship specific rules
- You must be a full time student. The scholarship is awarded in full only.
- You must not have received an Erasmus Mundus Master’s or Joint Doctorate scholarship before.
- You cannot combine it with another EU funded scholarship for the same course.
- No more than 10% of scholarships can go to students of the same nationality.
Mobility rule
- You must study in at least two different countries, for at least one semester each.
- At least one country must be an EU Member State or a country associated to the Programme.
- Both countries must be different from your country of residence when you enrol.
- Virtual mobility cannot replace physical mobility.

Programme Structure:
Intensive Programme (5 ECTS)
- Held at the beginning of September
- All NOHA students meet to learn the key principles, actors and challenges of humanitarian action
- The 2026 edition takes place at Ruhr University Bochum
Semester 1: Foundation Period (25 ECTS)
- Held at your home university from mid to late September until late January
- Common courses: World Politics, Legal Dimensions of Humanitarian Action, People and Culture, Management, and Public Health
Semester 2: Specialisation Period (30 ECTS)
- Held at a host university of your choice from early February to late June
- Each university offers 20 ECTS in its own speciality, plus common courses in Advanced Management and Research Methods

Semester 3: Contextualisation Period (30 ECTS)
You choose between two options.
Option A: Regional Training

Option B: Work Placement
- Career Development Training (10 ECTS)

Semester 4: Research Period (30 ECTS)
- Held at your home university from February to June
- You write your Master’s thesis, which is assessed by at least two examiners

Tips for a Strong Application:
- Apply for the scholarship by 15 December. If you are not selected, you can switch to a self funded application.

- Show your humanitarian experience and motivation clearly in your CV and application.
