HKBU International Writers’ Workshop 2026 (Fully Funded)

Applications are now open for the 2026 International Writers’ Workshop (IWW) Writers-in-Residence Programme at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), a prestigious opportunity for writers worldwide. This programme, running from 2 March to 29 March 2026, is designed for writers in fields such as creative nonfiction, fiction, poetry, drama, and more, with a focus on the theme “Here and There” for the concluding IWW Literary Festival.

The programme is fully funded, covering roundtrip economy airfare, on-campus accommodation, and a per diem. Writers who have published at least one book and reside outside Hong Kong are eligible to apply. There is no application fee, and applications must be submitted by 7 September 2025. Eligibility Criteria

To apply, writers must:

  • Have at least one published book.
  • Reside outside of Hong Kong.
  • Have a functional command of English or Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese).

Residency Requirements

Participants are expected to:

  • Attend the entire residency from 2 March to 29 March 2026.
  • Participate in the Welcome Ceremony during the first week.
  • Engage in the IWW Literary Festival during the final week, ideally sharing work related to the theme “Here and There.”

Documents Needed

  • Artist’s Statement: A 1-page, single-spaced statement in English or Chinese describing your work and goals for the residency. If written in Chinese, include a 1-paragraph English summary.
  • Writing Sample: 12–15 pages of recent work (e.g., creative nonfiction, digital writing, drama, fiction, graphic forms, libretti, or poetry). If the original work is not in English or Chinese, provide a translation in one of these languages.
  • CV or Resume: Highlighting your writing experience and publications.
  • References: Contact information, including email addresses, for two referees.
  • Formatting: Use 12-point font with 1-inch margins for all materials.
