UCLG ASPAC 10th Congress Photo Challenge: Win $500! No Application Fee

Applications are now open for the UCLG ASPAC Photo Competition, part of the 10th UCLG ASPAC Congress in Goyang Special City, Republic of Korea, from 24-26 September 2025. This competition invites photographers worldwide to capture images aligned with the theme “Sustainable Global Self-sufficient Cities and Regions for the Future,” across five categories: Job Creation, Youth Leadership, Energy Self-sufficiency, Family-friendly Cities, and Urban Growth. It is open to the public, with no application fee. Winners in each category receive a $500 prize (taxes included) and a certificate. The deadline for submissions is 8 August 2025. Competition Categories

The competition features five categories, each with one winner receiving $500 (taxes included) and a certificate. Categories reflect the Congress sub-themes:

1. Job Creation

Capture images showcasing economic resilience through green jobs, eco-friendly businesses, or community-led enterprises. Examples include local markets, renewable energy projects, sustainable agriculture, or innovative economic development initiatives.

2. Youth Leadership

Highlight youth-driven initiatives promoting sustainability and urban innovation. Photos can depict young leaders, youth-led projects, or events fostering environmental and social change in cities.

3. Energy Self-sufficiency

Showcase cities or communities achieving energy independence through renewable sources like solar, wind, or geothermal power. Photos should reflect efforts toward self-reliance and sustainability.

4. Family-friendly Cities

Focus on urban spaces that support families, such as accessible parks, green playgrounds, family-friendly public transport, or infrastructure like affordable housing and childcare services.

5. Urban Growth

Illustrate sustainable urban development, including smart city solutions, green buildings, urban planning with green spaces (e.g., green roofs, vertical gardens), or strategies managing population growth sustainably.

Submission Guidelines

  • Photo Limit: Maximum of 3 photos per participant.
  • Photo Requirements:
    • Must be original, taken by the participant.
    • High quality, minimum 10 MB, in JPG format.
    • No restrictions on photography devices.
    • Photos must not include symbols representing sensitive political issues.
    • If minors or non-consenting subjects are included, written consent from parents/guardians may be required.
    • Photos must be free of third-party agreements that could hold UCLG ASPAC liable for copyright issues.
  • Submission Process:
    • Submit via the online form by the deadline (Link below).
    • Include a description for each photo (max 100 words per photo).
    • Provide a short bio (max 450 words, in English, not shared with the jury).
  • Intellectual Property: Participants retain ownership but grant UCLG ASPAC non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to use photos for event promotion and marketing.
