The Karsh International Scholarship, established in 2010 through a generous donation from Martha L. and Bruce A. Karsh, supports intellectually and civically engaged international students at Duke University.
This prestigious program fosters interdisciplinary inquiry, academic research, and scholarship in service of society. Scholars come from diverse countries, including Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, England, Ghana, India, Iran, Kenya, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, Romania, Russia, Rwanda, Tunisia, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe. Eligibility
- Who can apply?
- International students who are citizens of any country outside the U.S.
- Must demonstrate financial need.
- Who cannot apply?
- Students with dual U.S./other country citizenship.
- Students who already hold a B.A. or B.S. degree.

Scholarship Benefits
The Karsh International Scholarship covers:
- Full tuition.
- Room and board.
- Mandatory fees.
- Demonstrated financial need exceeding these costs.
- Funding for three summers to support research, unpaid internships, or other opportunities that advance your academic career.

Application Process
There is no separate application for the Karsh International Scholarship. To be considered, follow these steps:
Step 1: Apply to Duke University
- Indicate “yes” in the financial aid interest box on your Duke undergraduate admission application.
Step 2: Complete Financial Aid Forms
- Submit the 2025-26 CSS Profile Application online at cssprofile.collegeboard.org by the relevant deadline:
- November 4: Early Decision Deadline.
- February 1: Regular Decision Deadline.
- When available in December, complete the FAFSA form to finalize your aid offer in the spring with Duke’s updated cost of attendance.

Step 3: Submit Additional Documentation (if requested)
- Check your email and applicant portal for requests from the College Board for additional documents.
- If requested, submit:
- Current or most recent foreign tax forms.
- An English-language statement from both parents’ employers stating their annual income.
- For unemployed or self-employed parents, a non-filer form documenting non-taxable income.
- All documents must include an official English translation and currency conversion to U.S. dollars.
- Submit additional documents promptly via the College Board’s IDOC service.

Step 4: Review Your Aid Offer
- Your financial aid offer will be included with your Duke admission letter.
- Upon enrollment, you’ll receive instructions in June on how to complete steps to receive funding.
- A mandatory financial aid session is required upon arrival at Duke to apply your aid.
