Italian Government Scholarships for International Students

Applications are now open for the Italian Government Scholarships 2026-2027. These scholarships are for foreign students and Italian citizens living abroad (IRE). You can study Master’s, PhD, arts, research, or Italian language courses in Italy. The scholarship gives you money, health insurance, and often free tuition.   • Degree Level: Master’s Degree, AFAM (arts, music, dance), PhD, research projects, Italian language courses, and Bachelor renewals.
  • Host Country: Italy .
  • Application Deadline: 26 March 2026 at 2:00 p.m. Italian time (CET).

  • No Application Fee

What This Scholarship Offers:

For 9-month scholarships (Master’s, AFAM, PhD, Research, Bachelor renewals):

  • Total: €10,800 paid in 3 instalments to your Italian bank account
    • 1st: €5,500 (after arrival & enrolment)
    • 2nd: €2,300 (February)
    • 3rd: €3,000 (June – after passing exams / supervisor approval)
  • Free health insurance (covers illness/accident during the scholarship)
  • Many universities waive tuition fees (you still pay regional fees)

For 3-month Italian language courses:

  • Total: €3,600 paid in one instalment at the end

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Have a valid passport or ID card
  • Be from one of the eligible countries (Check the List Below)
  • Meet the age requirement as of 26 March 2026:
    • Maximum 28 years old for Master’s, AFAM, language courses and renewals
    • Maximum 30 years old for PhD programmes
    • Maximum 40 years old for research projects
  • Have the academic qualification needed for your chosen programme
  • Have at least B2 level Italian (if the course is taught in Italian)
  • Have at least B2 level English (if the course is taught in English)
  • Not be currently studying or have graduated from any Italian university or AFAM institution
  • Not have received a MAECI scholarship during the last 5 academic years
