ICGEB Collaborative Research Programme (CRP) Grants

Applications are now open for the ICGEB Research Grants 2026 under the Collaborative Research Programme (CRP). These grants support scientists in developing countries who want to carry out original research projects that solve important local and regional problems in life sciences and biotechnology. There are four different grant calls open with the same deadline: 30 April 2026 (23:59 CET). The grants provide partial funding (up to €15,000–€25,000 per year) to cover research costs such as consumables, small equipment, travel, and training. There is no application fee. These opportunities are open to researchers in ICGEB Member States (and specific countries for some calls). One call is reserved only for women researchers under 45 years old. 3. ICGEB Grants for Strengthening Biosecurity in Healthcare and Research Laboratories

Funding Opportunity These grants support projects that strengthen biosecurity, biosafety, pathogen detection, and outbreak preparedness in healthcare and research laboratories.

4. ICGEB Research Grants 2026 CRP – Collaborative Research Programme

Funding Opportunity The main ICGEB CRP grant supports collaborative research projects addressing scientific problems of particular relevance to the host country and regional interest.

  • Supports basic science, biotechnology, and bioenergy projects
  • Maximum duration: 36 months
  • Annual contribution: up to €25,000

Eligibility: Open to Principal Investigators working in ICGEB Member States (Laboratories in Italy are excluded from this call).

Eligibility Criteria:

  • You must hold a position at a university or research institute in an eligible ICGEB Member State
  • You must be the Principal Investigator (project leader)
  • International collaboration is very important and must be clearly described
  • Your project should address scientific problems relevant to your country or region
  • Previous grant holders or projects that were not successful before may not qualify
  • Laboratories in Italy are not eligible for the main CRP call
