HIAS Postdoc Fellowships in Germany 2027-2028 (Fully Funded)

Applications are now open for the HIAS Fellowships 2027-2028 at the Hamburg Institute for Advanced Study (HIAS) in Germany. This prestigious program offers 12 individual fellowships to outstanding scholars (post-PhD/doctorate level), scientists, artists, and cultural professionals from all disciplines and all nationalities worldwide.

Fellows receive full freedom to pursue their own independent research or artistic projects on-site in Hamburg for a flexible duration of 3 to 10 months. The fellowship is fully funded in the sense that HIAS provides financial support — either a monthly stipend paid directly to the fellow or reimbursement to the home institution for teaching replacement costs. Eligibility Criteria:

  • Outstanding scholars/scientists with a PhD/doctorate or exceptional artists/cultural professionals.
  • All career stages (postdoc level and above), with special encouragement for early-career researchers and emerging artists.
  • Strong interest in interdisciplinary/transdisciplinary work and dialogue between arts and research.
  • Applicants from the Hamburg metropolitan region are not eligible.
  • HIAS strongly prioritizes diversity — applications from underrepresented regions, genders, and career stages are especially welcome.
