EC Blue Book Traineeship 2026 (Fully Funded)

Applications are now open for the European Commission Blue Book Traineeship October 2026 intake! This prestigious, fully funded 5-month paid traineeship offers recent graduates worldwide a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in EU policymaking, administration, and operations across various EU institutions.

It is open primarily to EU citizens, with a limited number of positions available for non-EU nationals from around the world. There is no application fee. The program provides a generous monthly living allowance, covers travel expenses, reimburses visa and medical costs, and places trainees in a multicultural environment in Brussels (Belgium) or Luxembourg. What is the Blue Book Traineeship Programme?

The Blue Book Traineeship is a flagship program offered twice a year by the European Commission. It provides graduates with:

  • Hands-on experience in EU policymaking and administration
  • Development of professional skills for an international career
  • Intercultural awareness and personal growth in a diverse, multicultural setting

Trainees work directly in the European Commission, its executive agencies, decentralised agencies, or even the European External Action Service (EEAS). You’ll get a real insight into how EU institutions operate.

Types of Traineeships:

  • Administrative Traineeship (ADMIN) Focuses on office operations, supporting organisational functions, policy support, and various administrative tasks.
  • Translation Traineeship (DGT) Involves translating documents into your native language from at least two official EU languages.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • University degree: Completed at least a standard 3-year higher education degree (bachelor’s level or equivalent, EQF level 6 minimum)
  • Language: Good knowledge of English (no IELTS or TOEFL required)
  • No age limit
  • Nationality: All EU citizens are eligible + a limited number of positions for non-EU nationals
  • Other: No prior work experience in EU institutions longer than 6 weeks (check official rules)
