These prestigious awards are available to both domestic and international students pursuing Higher Degrees by Research (HDR) at Deakin University. Benefits
The RTP and DUPR scholarships offer:
- Stipend: $35,550 per annum (tax-exempt, 2025 rate)
- Relocation Allowance: $500–$1,500 (depending on family status) for students relocating from interstate or overseas
- International Students: Single Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of the student visa
- Duration:
- Doctoral Degree: 3 years for stipend, 4 years for tuition fees offset
- Research Master’s Degree: 2 years for both stipend and tuition fees offset

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for an RTP or DUPR scholarship, applicants must:
- Be a domestic or international student enrolled in an HDR course at Deakin University
- Not receive an equivalent Commonwealth scholarship for HDR fees
- For RTP/DUPRS Stipend: Not receive income exceeding 75% of the stipend rate ($35,550) for general living costs during the course
- Income unrelated to the course or not for living costs is exempt
- Have completed at least four years of tertiary education with an 80% or equivalent in the research component, or equivalent academic achievement (considering work experience, publications, or other research experience)
- Meet all other entry requirements outlined in the HDR Admission, Selection, and Enrolment Procedure. Check the Research Degree Entry Pathways for more details
Current HDR students: Eligible to apply if they have not completed more than 3 years of a doctoral course or 2 years of a master’s course (or part-time equivalent).
