Programme Highlights

  • Duration: Up to 36 months, with an initial 12-month contract renewable up to 3 years. The total period can be spread over a maximum of 4 years, including up to 12 months of unpaid special leave to spend at your university.
  • Fields of Work: Opportunities in applied physics, IT, mathematics, electrical/electronic engineering, mechanical/civil engineering, instrumentation, materials science, radiation protection, safety, environmental protection, science communication, surveying, ultra-high vacuum.
  • Projects: Explore examples of available-union projects at CERN Careers. Mention specific projects of interest in your application (not mandatory).
  • Note: Students specializing in theoretical or experimental particle physics are not eligible.

  • Monthly Allowance: 3,891 Swiss Francs (net of tax).
  • Travel Allowance: Provided for programme-related travel.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, you must:

  • Be a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • Have started or be about to start a doctoral programme at a university.
  • Ensure your work at CERN contributes to your PhD thesis (degree awarded by your university).
  • Have a good knowledge of English or French.
