Applications are now open for the Canon Foundation Research Fellowship, offering up to 15 fellowships annually to highly qualified European and Japanese researchers at the PhD or Postdoc level. This fully funded fellowship supports research in all fields for periods of three months to one year, enabling European researchers to work in Japan and Japanese researchers to work in Europe.
Eligible applicants include those with a Master’s or PhD obtained within the last 10 years, as well as members of commercial, industrial, governmental, or professional organizations.
There is no application fee, and priority is given to those traveling to Europe or Japan for the first time. The application deadline is September 15, 2025. The Canon Foundation support all fields of research. There are no limitations or restrictions. Applicants do not have to be currently enrolled or employed at the time of applying. Application Requirements
To apply, you must meet the following criteria and submit the required documents:

- Research Plan: A detailed research plan (maximum 1 A4 sheet, double-sided) including an estimate of total costs.
- Host Confirmation: A letter from the host institute confirming that research or work facilities will be provided.
- Reference Letters: Two letters from individuals who can comment on your academic or professional qualifications and previous work.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV): Include your academic and professional background.
- Academic Degree/Certificate: Proof of your highest academic degree or professional qualification.
- Passport-Sized Photograph.
- Publication List: A chronological list of academic publications or professional achievements, including authors, place, year of publication, and page references.
