British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM 2026–27

Applications for the British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM 2026–27 academic year are now open. This fully funded scholarship programme supports women from eligible countries to study a one-year master’s degree in STEM fields at leading UK universities. There is no application fee. The programme helps close the gender gap in STEM by giving women from disadvantaged backgrounds the chance to gain world-class education and bring new skills back to their home countries. Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be a woman (legal sex recorded as female on your passport or official documents)
  • Be a permanent resident of one of the eligible countries and hold a valid passport
  • Agree to return to your home country for at least two years after the scholarship ends
  • Have completed your undergraduate degree (or be in your final year and will finish in time)
  • Meet the academic and English language requirements of the chosen UK university
  • Show you cannot privately fund your studies and are not receiving duplicate funding from elsewhere
  • Have had no significant international study experience in the UK before (short visits are allowed)
  • Be active in STEM with work experience or strong interest in the subject
  • Show a clear plan to encourage other women and girls in STEM in your home country
  • Agree to stay in touch with the British Council and act as a UK ambassador

Not eligible if:

  • You hold dual British citizenship
  • You are (or a close relative is) an employee of the British Council or UK Government in an eligible country

How to Apply:

  1. Choose your preferred course and university from the five listed above.
  2. Visit the university’s website and read their specific entry requirements and deadlines.
  3. Submit your application directly to the university (you may apply to more than one university, but each application is separate).
  4. The university will review both your course application and your scholarship application. You will hear directly from the university about the result of your application. There is no extra step with the British Council.
