Applications are now open for the CSEAS Fellowship 2027 at Kyoto University, Japan. This prestigious visiting fellowship offers scholars and professionals the opportunity to conduct advanced research on Southeast Asia in Kyoto for a period of 3 to 6 months.

The program is fully funded and provides a monthly stipend, international travel support, research funds, and domestic travel allowance. There is no application fee. Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be an accomplished scholar of high standing
  • Be under 65 years of age (applicants over 65 may be considered only in exceptional cases)
  • Hold a PhD degree (or get prior approval from a CSEAS faculty member if you do not have a PhD)
  • Not be currently enrolled in any graduate degree program or postdoctoral studies
  • Have strong research experience related to Southeast Asia
  • For the librarian position: Only experienced librarians are eligible
  • Previous CSEAS fellows must wait six years after their last fellowship before reapplying

    • Curriculum Vitae (maximum 5 pages, including list of major publications)
    • Research Plan (maximum 2 pages, double-spaced – use the official form)
