51 Fully Funded PhD Positions at University of Bologna (42nd cycle)

Applications are now open for the University of Bologna’s 42nd cycle PhD programmes (Academic Year 2026/2027). This prestigious Italian university (one of the oldest in the world) is offering 51 diverse PhD programmes across sciences, engineering, humanities, social sciences, medicine, law, and more. These positions are fully funded in most cases. Scholarships provide a gross annual amount typically ranging from approximately €16,243 to €19,700 (depending on the programme), translating to roughly €1,250–€1,350 net per month after deductions (with possible increases for periods abroad). Scholarships cover living expenses and research activities, and no tuition fees are charged beyond minor enrolment charges (around €157 in some cases).

These opportunities are open to candidates of all nationalities who hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent second-cycle qualification) relevant to the chosen PhD field.
