United Nations International LAW Fellowship 2026 in Netherlands (Fully Funded)

Applications are now open for the United Nations International Law Fellowship Programme 2026. This is a fully funded summer training programme in international law. It is made for qualified professionals , especially government officials and teachers of international law from developing countries and countries with emerging economies. The main goal is to help them gain deeper knowledge of international law and the legal work of the United Nations.

The programme runs from 29 June to 31 July 2026 (5 weeks) at the Peace Palace in The Hague, Netherlands. Participants will join interactive lectures, seminars, and the Public International Law Session at The Hague Academy of International Law. They will learn from top experts, share ideas with people from different countries, and receive an official certificate at the end. 20 fully funded places are available. Programme Overview & Course Structure

The programme is a summer course held entirely in-person at the Peace Palace in The Hague, Netherlands.

Daily format (approximately):

  • Mornings: Public International Law Session at The Hague Academy of International Law
  • Afternoons: Lectures and seminars organized by the UN Codification Division

(For the remaining period, all sessions are run by the Codification Division.)

The training uses interactive seminars and discussions for maximum exchange of views.

  • Legal background + professional experience in international law
  • Fluent in English (if English is not your mother tongue or language of instruction, you must attach valid proof – e.g., language certificate, diploma, or proof of extensive work in English)
  • Able to attend the full programme (no partial attendance)

Note: Current UN staff members are not eligible for funded fellowships but may apply as self-funded participants.

  2. Complete the form in English (typewritten, clear and detailed). Attach extra pages if needed.
  3. Get the Letter of Transmission signed by a senior official of your nominating institution (government, university, intergovernmental or non-governmental organization).
  4. Prepare two versions of the completed application:

    • One electronic MS Word version
