Tokyo Global Partner Scholarship Program 2026 (Fully Funded)

Applications are now open for the Tokyo Global Partner Scholarship Program 2026 at Tokyo Metropolitan University (TMU). This fully funded scholarship supports outstanding international students pursuing Master’s (2 years) or Doctoral (3 years) degrees in a wide range of fields across humanities, sciences, engineering, health, urban studies, law, politics, management, and more.

The deadline is April 4, 2026, for Fall 2026 enrollment (October start). It is targeted at students from Asian countries/regions, Tokyo’s sister/friendship cities/states, or TMU’s international partner institutions. Eligibility Criteria:

  • Academic Qualifications — Master’s: Completed 16 years of education or hold/expect Bachelor’s degree (age 22+ at enrollment); Doctoral: Hold/expect Master’s or equivalent (age 24+ at enrollment).
  • Institutional Affiliation — Enrolled in or graduated (within 1 year) from: universities/research institutions/government agencies/companies in Asian countries/regions, Tokyo’s sister/friendship cities/states, or TMU’s listed international partner institutions; or currently in a Master’s program in Japan with “Student” visa.
  • GPA Requirement — Minimum 2.30 GPA (on 3.0 scale) calculated per TMU’s formula/conversion table; must maintain during program.
  • Language Proficiency — JLPT N2+ (Japanese) or CEFR B2+ (English, e.g., TOEFL iBT 72+, IELTS 5.5+), or equivalent education/judgment by TMU graduate school.
