Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the TMU Scholarship 2026, you must meet the following requirements:
Academic Requirements
- Masterâs Applicants: Must be enrolled in a bachelorâs degree program or have equivalent academic qualifications (recognized by TMU). Must be at least 22 years old at enrollment.
- Ph.D. Applicants: Must be enrolled in a masterâs degree program or have equivalent academic qualifications (recognized by TMU). Must be at least 24 years old at enrollment.
- GPA Requirement: A minimum GPA of 2.30 from your current or most recent academic institution. You must maintain this GPA during the scholarship period.
Applicants must be affiliated with:
- A TMU partner institution (check the list of partner universities).
- A higher education institution, research institution, governmental organization, or company located in:
- Tokyoâs Sister and Friendship Cities/States (e.g., New York City, Beijing, Seoul, Jakarta, London, etc.).
- Any Asian country/region (e.g., Pakistan, India, China, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, etc.).
- Alternatively, applicants enrolled in a masterâs program in Japan with a âStudentâ visa status are eligible.

Language Proficiency
Applicants must meet one of the following:
- Japanese:
- Passed JLPT N2 or higher, or
- Completed an educational program in Japanese, or
- Demonstrated equivalent Japanese proficiency (as judged by TMU).
- English:
- B2 level or higher on the CEFR scale (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL, or equivalent), or
- Completed an educational program in English, or
- Demonstrated equivalent English proficiency (as judged by TMU).
