The University of Bradford invites three highly motivated early-career researchers from Egypt to join its Faculty of Engineering & Digital Technologies as Early Career Research Fellows. Under the mentorship of leading experts, you’ll conduct innovative research, collaborate internationally, and contribute to solving global challenges in one of the following priority areas:

Research Areas

  1. Clean Energy
    • Geothermal energy recovery and storage techniques.
    • Energy-efficient materials and passive building designs.
  2. Extreme Weather and Climate Impact
    • Carbon emission reduction and circular economy in construction.
    • AI-driven predictions for climate change impacts on earthworks.
    • Resilient materials and structures for extreme weather.
  3. Sustainable Environment
    • Stabilizing demolition waste for reuse in construction.
    • Sustainable construction materials and structures.

What You’ll Do

As a fellow, you will:

  • Conduct independent research in your chosen area.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to apply your research findings.
  • Publish in reputable academic journals and present at conferences.
  • Engage in professional development activities.
  • Contribute to the university through guest lectures, seminars, or workshops.
  • Share practical knowledge with key stakeholders in Egypt.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, you must:

  • Be a permanent resident of Egypt.
  • Hold a first degree in a science, computing, or engineering-related field.
  • Have recently completed or be close to completing a PhD in a related field (final viva voce must be passed before starting the fellowship).
  • Be an Early Career Researcher (ECR), meaning you haven’t held a permanent academic or research-related post that includes supervising PhD students or submitting grants as a principal investigator.
    • Note: If you don’t have a PhD but have equivalent research experience, you may still be eligible.
  • Be affiliated with a public university or research center in Egypt.
  • Not be receiving other UK funding or be from a for-profit organization.
  • Have a background or interest in one of the priority research areas.
  • Be willing to contribute to Egypt Vision 2030 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Meet UK visa and English language requirements.

What’s Offered

The fellowship provides comprehensive support for a 12-month stay at the University of Bradford:

  • Stipend: £35,000 for the 12-month fellowship.
  • Travel: Return economy-class travel from Egypt to the UK.
  • Visa and Insurance: Costs covered for visa and NHS surcharge.
  • Research Budget: Funding for consumables, UK travel, and other research-related expenses.
  • Dependents Allowance: Support for accompanying family members.
