The eikones – Center for the Theory and History of the Image at the University of Basel is offering three one-year NOMIS Fellowships starting September 1, 2026. These fully-funded fellowships are open to outstanding junior and senior researchers from the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences whose work explores images as models or paradigms in scientific and aesthetic contexts.
Since 2005, eikones has been a hub for interdisciplinary research on images, studying their roles as tools for knowledge and cultural practices across history and in modern society. The NOMIS Fellowships support innovative research projects that examine how images visualize complex structures, serve as exemplary models, or contribute to epistemic and learning processes.
